In May 2019, Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF) moved into its new studio space in the 81-metre-high Meret Oppenheim high-rise (MOH) building in Basel, as the building’s first tenant. René Schell, lead project manager of the new studio location in Basel and staff manager of the Culture department at SRF, explains in an interview how the new location came about and what it means for SRF.

Deren Präsident Ronald Schlegel hat der Bauherrin SBB das Zertifikat feierlich überreicht. Für mich eine ideale Gelegenheit, ihm dazu ein paar Fragen zu stellen.

Day after day, we strive to make our stations more attractive places to be. Specifically, we want to continuously improve the quality of time spent at the station and increasingly develop into “destinations”. The aim is for customers to not just be able to change trains here in two minutes, but also to be able to do their most important shopping and run errands in no time at all as well as visit the dentist or get a haircut.

Zurich main station’s south wing unique insights into the refurbishment of a once-in-a-generation building.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the refurbishment of Zurich main station’s world-renowned and time-honoured south wing was held on 11 June 2018. Built in 1871 and designed by architect Jakob Friedrich Wanner, this striking listed building is the central hub between Bahnhofstrasse and the main station, its imposing preface stretching down far beyond the station forecourt.

“It was important to find a unique location for our first outlet in French-speaking Switzerland.”

Since the beginning of December, two years after the start of its transformation, the west wing of the passenger building at Lausanne station has been open to users, with the former Buffet de la Gare restaurant now taken over by the tibits vegetarian restaurant brand.
